IT DOES NOT TAKE A GRAPHIC PROFESSIONAL DESIGNER
TO KNOW THAT ITALY'S TRUE IMAGE IS SYNONOMOUS
WITH,ART,MUSIC AND NATURE!

THIS IS THE STARTING POINT IN ESTABLISHING A LOGO
THAT CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF ITALY.
THE SPIRITUAL AND HUMAN DIMESION OF ITALY'S
CULTURAL PERSONALITY IS MISSING.
THIS IS THE STARTING POINT TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN
DESIGNING IN LOGO THAT EFFECTIVELY CAPTURES THE
ESSENCE OF ITALY: THE ITALY THAT THE WORLD HAS
COME TO KNOW AND ADMIRE!

THIS LOGO REFECTS THE "SICK" ASPECTS OF ITALIAN
POLITICS AND BUSINESS AFFAIRS.A BIG DISGRACE.

ITALY DESERVES A TEAM OF BETTER QUALIFIED
POLITICIANS AND DESIGNERS IN ORDER TO CREATE A
WORK THAT TRUELY CAPTIVATES AND INFORMS THE
USER.

GOOD LUCK ITALY!

WHAT A BIF BIG DISSAPPOINTMENT FROM ITALY!
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE PITY THAT A DESIGN SO BLAND WAS ACCEPTED TO REPRESENT ITALY'S IMAGE!
THIS LOGO REPRESENTS ONCE AGAIN THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF ITALY: CORRUPTION AND DECLINE!

@Dylan
several Italian readers have commented on this problem.
It would seem to be the choice of the font in CSS (choice made by the italia.it HTML programming experts) which in some cases (it would depend on the single computer) can create this problem.

I can't read the fonts on the pages. For some reason they are blurry and broken. Anyone else have this problem? I'm in IE7.

As a website designer I can say that italia.it is absolutely horrific.

It is everything web designers strive to stay away from.

The guy at http://www.31three.com would have done a 200x better job for 20,000 euros or something including coding/copwriting costs.

I think the biggest problem up front is that it doesn't carry any of the feel of Italy.

The logo is strange and resembles that on my Logitech keyboard, which in turn is a bit phallic.

Sure, the photos that zoom around are of Italy, but not particularly or exclusively Italian looking in many cases.

There's no sell here, it's more like the self-congratulatory stuff they feed us on Raiuno. Italian fashion? Boh! How many tourists get an invitation to a runway show? But that's what they show. If something is going to move on the site, those models would be a start. Instead they have the landscape moving as if you were in glider.

All in all, this site resembles the Italy I know and love very little. It's the blue equivalent of beige. There are rows of type to click that mean little to inexperienced travelers. I don't believe for a minute that they are covering all places to sleep, and the expectation is that one will know what the accommodations codes mean... to me it makes more sense to explain the categories before expecting people to click on one. Searching on Florence brings up 300 places! In no logical order... first is 3 stars, second 1 star, first begins with A, second with M. How is that useful?

As one who fell for Italy the first foot on the ground moment, and worked for 27 years to return permanently, this site is a huge disappointment.

As one who lives where broadband and digital TV are not available at all, all that floating and zooming is an arrogant reminder that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing, but they'll spend a bundle doing it anyway.

<i>I received this via email from an American friend who grew up in the NY area and is married to an Italian, living with husband and two kids in NE Italy for less than a decade:</i>

I checked out www.italia.it and wow! Great pictures! That's probably what cost so much and getting Monica Bellucci to talk. It's not so useful if your not writing a research paper on Italy. I personally like the small details on a website. For example, if your going to have a map going from one point to another.... Let me pick the points and then tell me how far from here to there (depending on transportation). Their map was useless.

I did like their itinerary section. Great idea... but very limited on this site. A quick example... religious and spiritual itinerary was only churches, how about yoga places or ashrams, etc.

The site is set up clear enough, but it doesn't really give the person anything more than what they probably already know. A site like this should propose itineraries to travel around Italy, without people trying to guess.

For example... are you traveling for 10 days.... here are some suggestions, etc.

I hope this is what you wanted and that it helps...

No, don't like it, won't use it. Too busy. Bad design, poor layout. Too slow to download with a dialup connection. Bad Tranaslations make me think "sloppy work". What a waste of time and money.
